We produce a range of top quality, custom made cricket bats to suit players at every level. Selected willow is hand crafted to your specification to create the perfect bat for any player. We celebrate willow at all grades. Our bat stickers are simple and don't hide the quality of the wood underneath. We put it all out there. They're just dam good bats.
Each of our bats is made with passion and care.
Our English Willow is sourced from Devon and for each bat, we hand select the right cleft to meet the bat specifications.
The wood is then carefully hand pressed. This gives the bat it's strength whilst also balancing the need to maintain the natural softness in the willow needed for the bat to play well.
Bats are then shaped by our master bat maker according to the unique specification. The aim is to leave as much wood as possible whilst providing a balanced pick up at the specified weight. All bats are also checked to conform with Law 5 of the MCC laws of cricket.
Finally, the bat is sanded by hand to achieve the high quality final finish. Final checks are completed and the bat is born..
All bats need a little care and attention from time to time.
You will need to knock your bat in. This is the process of conditioning the surface of the blade of the bat. This prevents cracking in the surface of the blade and prolongs the life of the bat. It also improves the middle of the bat making it bigger and improving the ping.
Although the bat is hand pressed some knocking in is still needed. A bat mallet is one of the best ways to do this. Start gently, begin along the long edges. 45 degrees to the face of the bat to round the edges off and compress the fibres of the wood. Gradually increase your pressure with bigger mallet blows. Also concentrate on the toe of the bat, don't hit it at 45 degrees like the edges, hit it on the face. Start gently and again work up to heavier blows. You can then continue in the same way with the face of the bat. Use this time to bond with your new bat, get to know it's character and it's quality.
Each season a thin coat of linseed oil might be applied with a rag to prevent the willow from drying out and cracking. If you have chosen to have a face shield applied to the bat then you will need to remove this first.
